New Delhi, June 15: A fire broke out at a coaching centre in the Mukherjee Nagar area of northwest Delhi on Thursday, causing students to jump from windows. Up to 11 fire trucks rushed to the area, and rescue efforts were under way to put out the fires.
A fire started around 12:30 p.m. and in a video that the fire department uploaded, students can be seen being rescued by the firemen via the windows, mostly students.
People can be seen using wires to escape the oncoming fire at the educational institute in a video that has gone viral. So far, there have been no recorded casualties.
A call about the fire was received at 12.27 pm and a total of 11 fire tenders have been pressed into service, Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Service, said.
“The fire broke out due to an electric meter and now it has been doused. Four students were injured in the incident. The fire was not that massive, “Atul Garg, fire director, told the media.
“A few students received injuries as they were escaping from the building where the fire broke out today. No person is trapped in the building. The fire broke out in the electricity meter of the building. Panic caused due to rising smoke,” Suman Nalwa, PRO, Delhi Police said.
“We received info about a fire in a building. Later we came to know that it is a coaching centre and some children are trapped in it. We sent a total of 11 fire tenders to the spot. The fire has been brought under control. Some children got scared and came out of the window. 4 children have sustained minor injuries,” Atul Garg said.
Officials stated that the firefighting operation is in progress and that the cause of the fire is still unknown.
“All people have been rescued from the building and fire fighting operation has been concluded. So far, no major injuries have been reported,” Delhi Fire Department said.
