New Delhi: The Drugs Controller General of India has approved PresVu eye drops by Entod Pharmaceuticals, marking a significant advancement in the treatment of presbyopia. This breakthrough eye drop has also received approval from the Subject Expert Committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), paving the way for its use in India.

PresVu is the first eye drop in India specifically designed to help individuals suffering from presbyopia, an age-related condition that makes focusing on close objects difficult. This innovation aims to provide an alternative to reading glasses, improving the quality of life for many.

What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is a common condition that typically affects people over the age of 40, making it challenging to focus on nearby objects. As people age, the eye’s ability to focus naturally declines, leading to this condition. Globally, it is estimated that between 1.09 billion to 1.80 billion people suffer from presbyopia, underscoring its widespread impact.

This condition can significantly affect daily life, making routine tasks like reading or using a smartphone difficult. Often, people with presbyopia find themselves holding reading materials at arm’s length to see clearly, a key indicator of the condition, which can be easily detected through a simple eye examination.

About PresVu and Its Benefits

Nikhil K Masurkar, CEO of Entod Pharmaceuticals, explained that PresVu was developed after years of dedicated research and development. “PresVu has been created through years of research and development. Its approval by DCGI is a major step in our mission to transform eye care in India,” he stated.

Entod Pharmaceuticals has applied for a patent for both the formulation and process of PresVu. The eye drop not only improves near vision but also provides additional benefits, such as lubricating the eyes. This is achieved through advanced dynamic buffer technology that quickly adapts to the pH of tears, ensuring prolonged effectiveness and eye protection.

Masurkar emphasized that PresVu is more than just a product; it’s a comprehensive solution designed to enhance the lives of millions by improving their vision without the need for reading glasses.

‘Improves Near Vision in 15 Minutes’

Dr. Aditya Sethi highlighted the benefits of PresVu, noting that it can significantly improve near vision within just 15 minutes of application. “Presbyopia has long been treated with reading glasses, contact lenses, and surgical measures. With PresVu, it can be treated effectively as the eye drop improves near vision within 15 minutes,” he explained. This new treatment could drastically improve the quality of life for many, allowing them to perform everyday tasks more easily.

Dr. Dhananjay Bakhle also commented on the clinical potential of PresVu, calling its approval a promising achievement in the field of ophthalmology. He stated, “For presbyopia patients, this eye drop provides a non-invasive option that eliminates the need for reading glasses.”

As with any new treatment, it is important for individuals experiencing symptoms of blurred near vision to consult with a healthcare professional to determine if PresVu is a suitable option for them.
