Dhanbad, July 27: New vice-chancellor of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad Sukadev Bhoi has set up a three-member high-level committee to decide the admission fee structure for the M.Ed course in private B.Ed institutions.

The VC at the Syndicate meeting took serious note over the arbitrary fee of private B. Ed colleges being realized in the name of the M.Ed course. He set up the three-member committee comprising Dean of Social Welfare (DSW) Dr Devyani Biswas, Dean of Education Dr JN Singh. One more member of the university would be opted soon.

“On the basis of the committee’s report, the university will fix admission charges and the monthly fee for M.Ed course in private institutions affiliated under BBMKU,” said a senior official of the university.

A total of 26 B.Ed colleges run under BBMKU in Dhanbad and Bokaro districts including three constituent colleges  SSLNT Women’s College (Dhanbad), RSP College (Jharia) and Bokaro Steel City College (Bokaro).

But M.Ed course is being taught only in two private B.Ed colleges namely Al Iqra Teachers’ Training College and Rajiv Gandhi Teachers Training College.

Since the university has no control over these two private B.Ed colleges, both the institutions have been allegedly realizing arbitrary charges in the name of admission and monthly fee from the students.

Four months ago, students of the university had launched massive agitation against the high charges of B.Ed  colleges. The then acting vice-chancellor Dr Mukul Narayan Deo had to interfere and hold up the fee till the court ruling came.

Al Iqra Teachers’ Training College and Rajiv Gandhi Teachers Training College have 100 seats each in the M.Ed course and reportedly, they realize Rs 2 lakh fee per student.

At the same time, BBMKU which runs MA in Education, an equivalent course of M.Ed, has 48 seats but it realizes merely Rs 5,000 as admission charge and monthly fee.

Student unions of the university NSUI and ABVP have hailed the step of the vice-chancellor. NSUI president Gopal Krishan said that students were facing hardship from the high charge of M.Ed. Under the pressure of students unions’ dharna and demonstration, the university has initiated these steps.

“However, we have to see what the university committee decides keeping the interest of students in mind,” said the NSUI president.

ABVP coordinator Himanshu Kumar said that student unions have high hopes from the new VC and his step has maintained it.
