Dhanbad, Dec 31: Civil surgeon of  Dhanbad  Dr Shyamkishore Kant has planned to turn Sadar Hospital into a super specialty health centre of the region in the New Year. He has taken this decision for catering to health services requirements of 30 lakh denizens of the district.

Dr Kant while rolling out New Year resolutions of the district health department said that specialist medicos, advanced diagnostic equipment and modern medical labs would be equipped in the Sadar hospital so that patients are not required to go out for treatment. Instead, it will help attract people of other districts to visit Dhanbad for better health facilities.

Dhanbad Sadar Hospital re-opened after 39 years in 2019 following a directive of the Jharkhand High Court. The hospital was merged into the then Patliputra Medical College Hospital (PMCH) in 1982 by the Bihar government to save the institution from de-recognition by the Medical Council of India.

In the first phase, OPD services have been started in the hospital having 300 beds by the district administration under the District Mineral Fund Trust (DMFT).

“The state government has allotted funds for the Sadar hospital. In the first month of New Year, labour and a lab would be set up. The requirement of Dhanbad denizens is government super specialty hospital and I have resolved to fulfil the dream in the New Year,” said the civil surgeon.

Since the Sadar hospital was merged into PMCH, government funds for the Sadar hospital were transferred to the medical college. However, the government has now set aside a special fund for Sadar Hospital.

However, Dr Shyamkishore Kant said that for the time being, the priority is checking infection of Omicron variant of Covid-19 virus and 100% coverage of Covid vaccination. He further added that the third wave of Covid-19 is the new challenge for him and the health department under the guidance of District Disaster Management (DDM) and with the management of  Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) is geared up to tackle the situation.
