NGT takes suo moto cognisance in the matter of subsidence in Dhanbad

Ranchi, April 25: National Green Tribunal has taken suo-moto cognisance in the matter of subsidence at Dhanbad. Fixing the date of April 31 for hearing in the matter, the court has constituted a committee comprising DGMS, Dhanbad deputy commissioner, Pollution Control Board, District Mining officer besides others to probe the matter and submit its report on the matter.

On April 21 over 50 people feared trapped as about 60 feet of the unpaved road collapsed due to illegal mining in the closed mines of BCCL in Dumrijod of Chirkunda police station area in Dhanbad. Those feared trapped are expected to be residents of Purulia in West Bengal.

Earlier also several incidents of subsidence had taken place in the district.
