New Delhi, May 29: In a case involving the Naxal attack on former MLA Gurcharan Nayak in Jharkhand in January 2022, which resulted in the deaths of two police officers, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted its second supplemental chargesheet, the agency announced on Monday.
The chargesheet was filed on Saturday at the NIA Special Court Ranchi and lists two suspects. Both men have been recognised as armed cadres of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), a designated terrorist group. They are Tivari Bankira, 25, alias Shaka, and Sadan Korah, 20, alias Sajan.
The two, who are natives of the Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, have been accused of violating several IPC statutes and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Sadan has been detained since February 13, 2023, while Tivari was taken into jail on November 30, 2022.
The attack had happened on January 4, 2022, at the West Sighbhum district’s High School Jhilrua region, under Goilkera Police Station.
At the local police station, the Jharkhand police had initially registered the case. The NIA subsequently re-registered the case on June 30, 2022.
Following investigations, the NIA filed a charge sheet against 14 suspects on December 31, 2022.
According to NIA investigations, Tivari and Sadan were aiding the CPI (Maoist) in pursuing its violent and terrorist-related operations as well as waging war against the Indian government.
“They were part of the conspiracy to carry out the terrorist attack on Gurucharan Nayak and his bodyguards. They were also part of the Special Action Team established by the banned terror outfit to execute the crime,” said the anti-terror agency.
“The two accused had attended the meeting in which the conspiracy to attack Gurcharan Nayak with deadly weapons at Project +2, High School Jhilrua, was hatched. They had done a recce of the spot a day before the incident and had also participated in the training to execute the attack.”
