Moscow, Nov 19: A suspected gas explosion early on Saturday morning killed nine people on the Sakhalin island in southeast Russia, according to the local governor.
According to the TASS news agency, the explosion took place in a brick structure constructed in the village of Tymovskoye in the 1980s.
According to Valery Limarenko, the region’s governor, “Nine individuals were killed, including four children.”
Preliminary evidence, according to the emergency ministry, indicated a gas leak, and many storeys had collapsed. A white building with brown balconies was partially destroyed in images that were broadcast on television. The ministry for emergencies reported that 60 rescuers had been sent out to look for victims.
