New Delhi, Nov 10: A fire that rushed through crowded accommodations for foreign workers in the Maldives capital Male on Thursday resulted in at least nine Indian deaths and numerous injuries, according to AFP.

The top level of a structure that was completely destroyed in the fire contained a total of 10 dead. According to the investigation, the ground-floor auto repair shop was the source of the fire.

“We have found 10 bodies,” a fire service official told AFP.

According to the sources, it took them about four hours to put out the fire. About half of Male’s 250,000 residents are said to be foreign workers, most of them are from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

The Covid epidemic exposed the subpar living circumstances for immigrant workers since the virus spread three times as quickly among them as it did among locals.
