New Delhi, Nov 20: At least nine convicts of the Mon district jail in Nagaland have fled, and a large search effort is underway to find them, according to authorities.
The prisoners managed to escape in the early hours of Saturday after finding their cell keys, the police officer said, adding that they included murder defendants and prisoners awaiting trial.

At the police station in Mon, a case has been reported, and more investigation is being done.
“Police have started an elaborate search operation, issued a look-out notice and alerted different agencies concerned,” he said.
“The village councils of prisoners have also been asked to contact the police in case there is any information regarding those who escaped from jail.” the officer said.
