Jamshedpur, July 16: NIT, Jamshedpur has ranked 90 among the 100 best engineering institutions across  the country in The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF – 2022 ) conducted by the Union Ministry of Education (MoE) based on various performance parameters.

The ranking slipped down by four points from last year’s 86 to this year’s 90, thus springing an unpleasant surprise.

While none of the state’s top four engineering and management institutions has notched a nice niche on the central charts, globally reputable B-school XLRI being ranked 8 in its category, as per rankings declared on Friday. Tech cradle NIT Jamshedpur scored 40.71 points.

In Teaching Learning and Resources (TLR) parameter the technical institute got 53.43 points out of 100. It scored the highest point of 67.16 out of 100 in Graduation Outcome (GO) parameter. The tech cradle lagged behind much in the perception parameter in which it could only score 8.36 points out of 100.

The ranking methodology gives a significant importance to the perception of the institution by its stakeholders.  Points in this category are given  based on stakeholder surveys.

NIT spokesperson SK Bhagat said, “There were certain parameters where we could score well. But, there is always scope for improvement,” he said, adding that the ongoing beautification and other infrastructure development at the campus would turn certainly help in improving the ranking next year.”

Notably, the campus of NIT Jamshedpur in Adityapur still does not have a boundary wall and this often results in trespassing.

A second year student of the tech cradle said the institute has witnessed improvements in several areas during the last couple of years under the current director KK Shukla, who personally supervise things.

“The institute has done well on several parameters like teaching, resources and graduation outcome,” said the B. Tech second year student.

According to the NIRF scorecard the institute got 46.77 points in Outreach and Inclusivity ( OI ) parameter and 19.09 points in Research and Professional Practises ( RPC ).

NIRF rankings are based on five parameters.
