NIT Jamshedpur director feted by Institute of Indian Foundrymen

Jamshedpur, Aug 19: The Institute of Indian Foundrymen felicitated NIT Jamshedpur Director Gautam Sutradhar for his long contribution to IIF and Foundry (East Zone) on the occasion of 74th National Foundry Day in  Kolkata.

Sutradhar is one of the country’s leading experts in foundry technology and has authored a book titled “Design and Manufacturing and Integrated Approach” published by Oxford as well as a book titled “Foundry Process Design” published by New Age Publishers.

Known as a standard book in the field of technology, Sutradhar has published more than 125 technical papers in journals of national and international importance and has presented more than 50 technical papers in national and international conferences.

He has supervised several research projects sponsored by AICT New Delhi, CSIR New Delhi, UGC New Delhi and GST New Delhi and is also a member of several professional bodies.

He has also been the president of the eastern region of the Indian Institute of Countrymen.

Sutradhar holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering with specialization in foundry technology from IIT Kharagpur in 1986 and a PhD in engineering from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, Ranchi.

After working for five  years in Hindustan Motors Limited and Indian Rail Services, he served as teaching faculty at National Institute of Forestry and Forest Technology, Ranchi in 1991 and later at Saharanpur Textile College and Kalyani Government Engineering College.

In 2005, Sutradhar became professor at Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

Apart from his academic contributions, he has also made important contributions in the field of foundry technology.

Sutradhar has developed several components in Indian Railways, automotive components and is also continuously supporting new entrepreneurs who are interested in starting business in foundry and its allied sectors.
