Jamshedpur, Nov 4: Altogether 1,037 BTech, MTech, MCA, PhD and MSc students of various batches will be conferred with degrees during the 12th convocation of the National Institute of Technology -NIT Jamshedpur on Saturday with TV Narendran, CEO and managing director of Tata Steel joining the function as the chief guest.
R K Behera, chairman of RSB Group and an alumnus of NIT will grace the function as a guest of honour.
NIT director Karunesh Kumar Shukla. who is also chairman of the Board of Governors and has served the tech cradle for five years will attend the convocation along with other senior faculty members.
While briefing media persons at the NIT campus at Adityapur in neighbouring Seraikela- Kharsawan district here today Shukla said that one of the highlights of the convocation function would be the presentation of distinguished alumnus award to two former students.
“For the first time, the distinguished alumnus award would be given away to two alumni members – Prafulla Panigrahi and RK Behera. We would be happy to felicitate both of them with the coveted award, ” said Shukla.
Panigrahi who stays in the US was a student of NIT’s first batch of 1964 while Behera, the chairman of the RSB Group was a student of the 1967 batch.
According to the NIT director, two students – Hansha Kumari, a BTech student of the civil engineering stream and Divyanshi Agarwal, an MCA student would be conferred with a gold medal while 23 students, who are toppers of each department would be feted with silver medals.
NIT officials said that all 671 students would physically present on campus for receiving their degrees.
The students would wear a ‘Bundi’ and an ‘Angvastra’ while attending the convocation function.
Notably, the 2018- 2022 batch of BTech comprising 643 students achieved a placement record of 97 per cent with two students getting an annual package of around Rs 57 lakh.
