Dhanbad, Nov 17: NITI Aayog member VK Saraswat today asked the scientists of the Central Institute of Mineral Fuel Research (CIMFR) to research on renewable energy for achieving the Prime Minister’s mission of achieving net zero carbon emission by 2070.
Saraswat, who was addressing at the platinum jubilee celebration of CIMFR on Wednesday afternoon, said that the mission could be achieved either by carbon capture, utilization and storage or maximum use of renewable energy.
He said that the country has a huge stock of coal reserves to cater to the requirement for 80 years. Coal is the main resource of carbon emission. So for checking the carbon emission we do not have to keep it down albeit phase out by increasing coal efficiency so that it can’t impact the climate.
He also requested the scientists to work with the industry for the development of renewable energy especially hydrogen fuel. “In the coming days, hydrogen energy is all set to emerge as major sources of fuel. So CSIR scientists should concentrate on research in this field,” he said.
Dhanbad MP PN Singh while addressing the function expressed shock over the reluctance of youth toward research and development.
“Tata Research Institute Mumbai, MECON Ranchi like several institutions in the country are facing a shortage of scientists. However, the 2014 policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has attracted the young bunch,” he said.
Dr Shekhar C Mande, DG CSIR said that CIMFR has made a massive leap in research of the mining area and now it has to prove its mettle in the field of electric vehicles and others.
