Patna, April 4: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, denied any plans to run for the Rajya Sabha on Monday, putting to rest any speculation that he was searching for redemption at the Centre after stepping down.

“Kuch bhi chapte rahta hai. I was also surprised to see the reports,” he said talking to media persons after casting his vote for MLC polls being held today.

Kumar expressed interest in heading to the Rajya Sabha, the only House he has not represented in his almost four-decade political career, during an informal meeting with media reporters in his legislative assembly chamber a few days ago. His comments sparked speculation that he was aiming for something significant in national politics.

In July of this year, six Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar will become vacant, two of which are held by the Janata Dal-United (JD-U). Two of the remaining four are affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the other is affiliated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) (RJD). Sharad Yadav of the RJD holds one of the seats. The Anti-Defection Act disqualified him, although the case is still ongoing in court.

To allay fears of divisions within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Kumar announced that he will campaign for the BJP candidate in Bochchan on April 10. On April 12, by-polls for the Bochchan assembly seat will be held.
