Dhanbad, Dec 22: National Medical Commission (NMC) Inspector Dr Ramesh BH left for New Delhi after completing the two-day inspection of Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH)  Dumka on Wednesday.

Authorities of PJMCH said that NMC had permitted the institution to take admission on 100 MBBS seats for the current academic session 2021-22 on October 1. Now the inspector has assessed whether deficiencies have been fulfilled by the institution or not.

“The inspector has inspected the college and hospital in his two-day visit. Now, the NMC would review his spot assessment report for continuing permission on 100 MBBS seats,” said Dr Arun Kumar, Principal of the medical college. Dr Kumar, who is also the Director of Medical Education of Jharkhand, said that appointment of faculty members, doctors and infrastructure required for 100 MBBS seats are being restored on a war footing.

The NMC on the undertaking of the principal had lifted the ban from PJMCH Dumka on admission on October 1.

Notably, Jharkhand opened three new medical colleges in Dumka, Hazaribagh, and Palamu in 2019 with 100 MBBS seats each but imposed a ban on admission in 2020 due to acute deficiencies in faculty members, doctors in hospital and infrastructure including labs in all trio institutions.

However, on the undertaking, the Dumka College was given permission first in October followed by Palamu and Hazaribagh in December.

Dumka medical college authorities said that the NMC inspector on the first day (Tuesday) inspected the hospital and the college on the second day. Dr Ramesh BH assessed infrastructure under construction in the hospital, the number of general patients in wards and admitted Covid patients. He also noted the availability of diagnostic machines.

On the second day (today) Dr Ramesh assessed the number of faculty members and took details from principal Dr Arun Kumar and Superintendent Dr Ravindra Kumar.

NMC has yet to inspect two other medical colleges Palamu and Hazaribagh after granting permission for admission in the current academic session.
