New Delhi, Aug 17: The Union Home Ministry has asked that the Rohingya refugees remain in the detention centre until their deportation. The Delhi government was instructed to quickly declare the area where the Rohingya refugees have been sent as a ‘detention centre,’ the home ministry claimed.
The Center clarified in a series of tweets that it has not given any orders to relocate the Rohingya refugees. The Delhi government was further ordered by the Union home ministry to detain the Rohingya refugees there until their deportation.
“The Government of Delhi proposed to shift the Rohingyas to a new location. MHA has directed the GNCTD to ensure that the Rohingya illegal foreigners will continue at the present location as MHA has already taken up the matter of their deportation with the concerned country through MEA,” the Union home ministry said.
“Illegal foreigners are to be kept in detention centres till their deportation as per law. The Government of Delhi has not declared the present location as a detention centre. They have been directed to do the same immediately,” the Union home ministry added.
The clarification came after Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said in a tweet that Rohingya refugees would be relocated to apartments in Bakkarwala in outer Delhi and will also be given with basic facilities and police protection. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) built EWS flats, which are situated in the Bakkarwala neighbourhood close to the Tikri border.
Those who made a career out of spreading canards on India’s refugee policy deliberately linking it to #CAA will be disappointed.
