Ranchi, Dec 22: The public of Ranchi will be able to celebrate Christmas and New Year within the purview of the Jharkhand government’s existing instructions relating to Covid-19 released on October 30.

Sources in the Disaster Management Department of Jharkhand confirmed that as there are no new additional guidelines from the state government yet, the existing guidelines will prevail during Christmas and New Year.

According to the existing guidelines, a gathering of a total of 500 people is permitted in outdoor locations and 50% of the full capacity in indoor locations. Similarly, bars and restaurants in the city will also operate with 50% of the dining capacity.

In contrast to the previous year’s Christmas celebration, which had been cancelled owing to the corona infection, this year’s gathering would be possible for churches around the district with 50% of the seating capacity.

On the other hand, the district police administration said that it will increase the vigilance around picnic spots, parks and other public places in the capital city to prevent accidents and clashes during the celebrations.

A large number of people throng several waterfalls, including Dasam, Johna and Hundru falls located around Ranchi city during Christmas and New Year through most of January.

According to Jharkhand police department sources, policemen will be deployed at the picnic spots as and when the number of people increases. The dangerous spots of the waterfalls would also be barricaded to prevent any mishap.

Meanwhile, the traffic department is gearing up to start drives against drunk driving, over-speeding, riding without helmets and other violations at important crossings in the city.

Last year, one person was killed and half a dozen were injured in two separate incidents under the Sikidiri police station area of Ranchi during the 2021 New Year celebrations.
