Dhanbad, Dec 16: Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad authorities have decided to drop the proposal of launching a Spanish language certificate course as no one has turned up yet for admission in this subject.

SSLNT Women’s College, a constituent unit of BBMKU, had launched a certificate course in three foreign languages; Spanish, French and German from current academic sessions 2021-22. But not even a single application has come for the Spanish language till date.

SSLNT Women’s College principal Sharmila Rani said, “Students have shown keen interest in French and German languages but not in Spanish. However, the institution will accept applications till this month. If all go as per plan, the classes in German and French languages would start from the first week of January,” she said.

Official sources in SSLNT Women’s College said a total of 13 applications have come in which eight are for the French language and five for German.

This is the second time a constituent unit of BBMKU has launched courses in foreign languages. Five years ago, the oldest constituent unit PK Roy Memorial College Dhanbad had also launched courses in three foreign languages but in lack of application, that proposal was also cancelled.

However, PK Roy Memorial Colleges has again started a course in German in this session. Now, the college is exploring chances of enrolling second-batch students in the course.

For drawing maximum applications, SSLNT Women’s College has allowed male students to take admission. Principal Sharmila Rani said classes of foreign languages will be held in the morning session so that regular classes of college students do not get affected.
