Panchmahal, Dec. 16: A big explosion followed by a fire at a chemical plant in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district killed three workers and injured over 15 others on Thursday morning.
According to Panchmahal Superintendent of Police Leena Patil, the blast occurred at 10 a.m. at the Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited (GFL) chemical production factory near Ranjitnagar village in Ghoghamba taluka.
“Three labourers have died while 15 to 16 other workers, who were injured in the explosion and subsequent fire, were shifted to different hospitals. Some of them have received severe burn injuries,” said the official, who rushed to spot to oversee the search and rescue operation.
“Search is on for survivors and injured persons in the plant. The fire is under control,” Patil said.
The GFL has over 30 years of fluorine chemistry experience. According to the company’s website, it has domain knowledge in fluoropolymers, fluorospecialties, refrigerants, and chemicals, and caters to the modern world’s material requirements.
