Mumbai: Gufran Khan, a 20-year-old tattoo artist from Noida, recently arrested for sending death threats to Bollywood star Salman Khan and MLA Zeeshan Siddique, revealed he intended to frighten them and hoped to extort money in the process, according to police sources. Mumbai Police began tracking Gufran after Zeeshan Siddique’s Bandra office received a chilling message last Friday, warning of a plot to kill both the MLA and Salman Khan.
Following a swift investigation, police traced the message back to Gufran, who was arrested in Noida and brought to Mumbai on transit remand. He allegedly confessed to planning further threats, expecting one of the two to contact him in exchange for information, which he hoped would yield financial gains.
The threats to Salman Khan have intensified in recent weeks. Recently, a vegetable seller from Jamshedpur was detained after sending a ₹5 crore ransom demand, which was later retracted as a “mistake.” Another message threatened the actor’s life if he failed to pay ₹2 crore. This wave of threats follows an April shooting incident outside Khan’s Mumbai residence, attributed to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang, who reportedly have a long-standing feud with the actor dating back to his involvement in the blackbuck hunting case.
Security around Salman Khan has since been reinforced, especially as threats continue to circulate. Reflecting on these tense circumstances, Khan recently mentioned on Bigg Boss 18 that he had considered stepping away from the show but ultimately returned due to work commitments.
