Ranchi, July 20: The Crime investigation department of Jharkhand police today procured non-bailable warrant of arrest against those involved in violence that took place on June 10 last year claiming the lives of two persons in this incident.

On Wednesday, the chief judicial magistrate had ordered the issuance of the warrant on the prayer of the CID.

Those against whom the warrants have been issued include Naqib, Majid Alam, Munna Gaddi, Saddam Gaddi, Jamal Gaddi, Khalid Umar, Shadab Alam and Azim alias Ajimushan.

An FIR against them had been registered in the Daily Market Police Station. After the government’s recommendation the CID took over the investigation of the case. So far, a charge sheet has been filed against more than a dozen accused in this case.

The violence broke down after a protest march was organized from Equra Mosque round about to Albert Ekka Chowk to protest against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s derogatory remarks on Prophet Mohammed during a debate.

The then senior superintendent of police of Ranchi Surendra Kumar Jha was transferred after the incident.

On June 17 last year, advocate Rajeev Kumar had filed a PIL in the high court on behalf of his client Pankaj Yadav, requesting a National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigation in the matter. The matter is still pending before the high court.

A Hindpiri resident Bhairav Singh had also filed a PIL in this matter but he later withdrew it.
