Ranchi, Feb.9: Normalcy returned in trouble-hit Koderma, Hazaribagh, Giridih and Chatra after internet services were resumed on Tuesday evening.
State police spokesperson and IG (operation) A.V.Homkar informed the development saying that the deputy commissioners of concerned districts had stopped the service following a law and order problem.
Asked Homkar whether any result came during the suspension of internet services he said: “A few accused have been arrested and further investigation and action is going on in the matter.”
Internet services were stopped after reports of group clashes during the movement of the Saraswati idol procession.
A group clash had taken place at Karbala Nagar under Markachho police station in Koderma over playing DJ during the movement of Saraswati idol procession in the evening. In the clash as many as eight, including a 13-year old boy sustained injuries.
Also a group clash had taken place in Dulmaha village under Barhi subdivision in Hazaribagh. One died while two sustained injuries when clashes broke out during the progress of an idol procession in the district. The deceased was identified as Rupesh Kumar (28).
After the internet services were stopped following incidents of clashes that were taking a communal turn, BJP state president Deepak Prakash took strong exception and demanded its immediate resumption. He was taking the suspension of internet service as an attempt to violate the right of freedom of speech and expression of people. He was of the opinion that in the era of digitisation the internet is no less important than water and air.
