Jamshedpur, April 24: A moderate intensity Norwester which hit several parts of Jharkhand last night brought respite from sweltering conditions.

The Norwester or Kalbaisakhi in local parlance was triggered by a cyclonic circulation hovering over neighbouring Madhya Pradesh extending up to 1.5 Km above mean sea level.

Satellite pictures indicated a low pressure trough running from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim to Chhattisgarh across Bihar and Jharkhand at 3.1 Km above mean sea level.

Last night’s Norwester which hit several parts of Jharkhand including Jamshedpur was accompanied by a strong wind blowing at a speed of around 40 Kmph.

Hailstorm was also experienced at some places on the outskirts of Jamshedpur.

Weathermen said rain and thunderstorm were witnessed at several places over the state.

The Norwester activity brought down the maximum temperature at several places.

As per Meteorological records, Ranchi notched a maximum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, five points below normal.

The local IMD observatory in Jamshedpur recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius, 4.6 degrees below normal while Daltonganj recorded a maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees, five notches below normal.

Several places across Jharkhand woke up to overcast conditions today with the weather office predicting thunderstorms and rain at isolated places later in the evening.
