Ranchi, April 12: The Jharkhand High Court paved the path for a legal fight between two top Congress leaders after it framed the issues while hearing an election petition filed by Sukhdeo Bhagat challenging the election of Rameshwar Oraon in the 2019 assembly election.
Bhagat, who is at present a coordination committee member of Congress, had filed the petition when he was in the BJP. Oraon, the present finance minister of the state, had defeated Bhagat in the Lohardaga assembly election as a Congress nominee. Bhagat re-joined the Congress recently.
Bhagat had challenged his election saying that Oraon, an IPS- turned-politician, had suppressed many facts while filing nomination papers.
The matter was heard today by a single bench of Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary. The hearing in the matter was deferred for six weeks. Meanwhile, the court granted the petitioner to file relevant documents.
