Ranchi, June 26: Now, Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahto today alleged Raj Bhawan of working at the behest of the BJP.

He levelled the allegation during a JMM workers’ meeting at Nala in Santhal Pargana and later tweeted his message. The tweet carries Mahto’s video delivering speeches and counting achievements of the Hemant Soren government.

“By calling a special session in the Vidhan Sabha, the Sarna Dharma Code for identifying tribals was passed by the Vidhan Sabha and sent to the Raj Bhavan, but the bill was returned by the Raj Bhavan. A local policy based on the Khatiyan of 1932 was passed by the Legislative Assembly and sent to the Raj Bhavan, which too was returned. Rajya Bhavan is also working at the behest of BJP,” his tweet reads.

It is worth mentioning that on November 11, 2022, the Jharkhand government had passed the Sarna Tribal Religion Code Bill by calling a special session of the assembly and sent it to the central government without taking the consent of the Raj Bhavan. Raj Bhavan was only formally informed about it. Usually this does not happen and there are difficulties in getting the bill passed.

After this, in January 2023, the Khatiyan-based local policy bill of 1932 was returned to the state government by the then Governor Ramesh Bais. The bill was sent back to Jharkhand government to extend the definition of local persons, social and cultural benefits to local persons.
