Daltonganj, April 27: The Nilamber Pitamber University in Daltonganj finds itself overlooked by the district administration.
This complaint arose after the armed police bodyguard assigned to NPU’s pro-vice-chancellor, Dr Deepnarayan Yadav, was withdrawn for more than two months.
The final decision was made at the Zila Suraksha Salahkar Samiti’s last meeting, which was chaired by Palamu DC.
Lagatar24.com has learnt from well-placed sources that the pro-vice-chancellor’s police bodyguard was closed in February following no threat perception to him.
The intelligence sleuths assess the threat perception of those waiting to be escorted by a police bodyguard.
However, there have been occasions where people have been given police bodyguards as a result of intervention from higher-ups in the state’s power corridors.
Regardless of what the intelligence sleuths say regarding the threat perception, the institution contends that the vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor positions should have police protection.
According to sources, pro-vice-chancellor Yadav and proctor KC Jha have been pushing the issue of the police armed guard being restored to the pro-vice-chancellor but all went in vain.
Yadav, the pro-vice-chancellor, stated that he has addressed missives to all parties involved in restoring the police bodyguard to him, but that no real results have been obtained thus far. Yadav said he also spoke with Palamu DC Shashi Ranjan on the phone about this.
The administration had informed Yadav and his officials that the police bodyguard will be restored, but days turn into weeks and months but the restoration of the police bodyguard remains in limbo.
The SP, when asked when the pro-vice-chancellor’s police bodyguard would be reinstated, said the final decision would be made by the Zila Surakchha Salahkar Samiti.
“We need to review and we will see the restoration of the police bodyguard to the pro-vice-chancellor takes place,” he said.
Sources in the police department said as the electioneering procedures of the panchayat elections are on, the district administration is tight with the number of the cops.
