Daltonganj, Aug 10: The acting Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Nilamber Pitamber University Daltonganj, Dr Tapan Kumar Sandilya, chaired a special meeting of the Syndicate today.

Sandilya said the special meeting of Syndicate was permitted by the Raj Bhavan on humanitarian grounds to help an abdominal cancer-ridden English teacher Dr N K Singh.

Sandilya said the cancer-fighting teacher was recommended to the senior grade lecturer scale by the JPSC. But this recommendation by the JPSC was to be approved by the Syndicate of the university first to get the consequential benefits.

Sandilya said the special meeting and 81st in a row since the inception of this university in 2009, approved the JPSC recommendation for senior grade lecturer in respect of Dr N K Singh besides two more teachers, one of the two dead long ago.

Dr Singh said words fail to express his gratitude to this acting VC Sandilya who did such a marvellous job for him and two more teachers.

Speaking to this correspondent today Sandilya said, “I also express my profuse appreciation for the Raj Bhavan for so coming to help a teacher down with cancer who had to spend 1.5 lakh of rupees on just one injection.”

In another development, the acting VC said that he has directed the principal of GLA College Daltonganj to hire retired teachers for subjects like Botany and tribal dialect Kurukh and manage their remuneration from the internal resources of the college.

As for the tribal dialect Kurukh, the VC asked the registrar Dr Rakesh Kumar to first ascertain the number of students enrolled in this dialect here.

As there are just two admissions in the mass communication courses here, Sandilya said, “Let these two students take their examination and once its results are out this self-finance course would be shut here. There is no point in continuing this course where the number of the students is in single digit.”

On being told that remuneration to contractual teachers is dragging on pending for months, the VC said he would ask the registrar about such a situation where a contractual teacher is to wait for remuneration for months and months.
