New Delhi, March 31: Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor (NSA), met with Geoffrey Van Leeuwen, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands’ Security and Foreign Policy Advisor, on Thursday to discuss geopolitical developments.

Doval and Leeuwen had discussed a wide variety of bilateral topics as well as key regional and global events. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the two countries’ commencement of bilateral relations. On the invitation of the King and Queen of the Netherlands, India’s President Ram Nath Kovind will undertake a State visit to the Netherlands (April 4-7) to mark the occasion.

The National Security Advisor Doval and his Dutch counterpart talked about recent geopolitical developments in their respective regions. According to sources, both of them stressed the significance for India and the Netherlands to stay engaged on these problems and strengthen their ties, especially through policy conversations on areas of common interest. They resolved to maintain regular contact and agreed to improve their alliance by increasing ongoing defence, security, and counter-terrorism cooperation, according to sources.

In the European Union, the Netherlands is India’s most important trade and investment partner.

Notably, the April 9 virtual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte marked the pinnacle of India-Netherlands relations in 2021.
