New Delhi. July 1: The Supreme Court on Friday criticised suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma for making a ‘disturbing’ remark about the Prophet Mohammad. The Supreme Court claimed that this statement by Nupur Sharma is responsible for the unfortunate killing in Udaipur.
The Supreme Court stated that Nupur Sharma had ‘threatened the security of the nation’ in rejecting her request to have all of the FIRs filed against her in various states transferred to Delhi for inquiry.
“Nupur Sharma is single-handedly responsible for what has happened across the country,” Justice Surya Kant said.
Maninder Singh, Nupur Sharma’s lawyer, claimed that she apologised for her words and afterwards retracted them. To which, the SC bench replied that she should have gone to the TV and apologised to the nation.
“She was too late to withdraw.. These are not religious people at all, they make statements to provoke,” the bench said.
End of May saw a huge global outrage after Nupur Sharma, the then-BJP spokeswoman, made a remark about Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate. At least 14 countries, including Qatar, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, criticised India over the remarks when the discussion film went viral.
