Ranchi, Jan 17: Nurses working on contract-basis in 14 blocks of Ranchi have gone on strike. The nurses have begun demonstrations at the main gate of the Community Health Center located in Namkum, Ranchi amid the third wave of coronavirus. They are angry with the dual attitude of the state government.
State President of Contract Employees Union Meera Kumari said that more than half of the nurses working on contract in 14 blocks of the district have not been paid salaries for the last five months. Due to this everyone is suffering economically.
On the other hand, State General Secretary of Jharkhand State NRHM ANM-GNM Contract Employees Union, Veena Kumari said that, all of the nurses are sitting on a strike at Namkum Community Health Center to demand what is rightfully ours. She said that there are eight centres for COVID vaccination in Namkum area where vaccination work is being stalled at the moment due to the strike. Veena said that the nurses have been working in similar conditions for the last 15 years with a meager pay of only Rs 15,465.
The union has demanded the payment pending for the past five months should be paid, along with one day weekly off, incentive amount for Covid Vaccination Verifier AVD Lunch be provided immediately, there be no compulsion to apply for special leave and Casual Leave of 16 days per year be granted.
