Bhubaneswar, June 4: Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, announced on Sunday that the CM’s Relief Fund would provide an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to each of the relatives of those killed in the railway crash in Balasore.
“The next of kin of the deceased will get the assistance of Rs 5 lakh and those who sustained serious injuries will get Rs 1 lakh as assistance,” the Office of the Chief Minister (CMO) Odisha said.
Over 1,000 people have been injured, and 288 people have died as a result of the tragic train catastrophe.
The Chief Minister has also expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. And wished the injured person a quick recovery, it said.
The victims of the train accident are undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals between Bhubaneswar and Balasore, it further read.
On Saturday, the Odisha Chief Minister arrived at the scene of the disaster and assessed the situation in Balasore, where a passenger train and a goods train collided, injuring several people.
Restoration efforts are currently being carried out at Balasore in Odisha, the scene of a terrible collision involving two passenger trains and a goods train.
The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express, and the goods train were all on separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar Station in the Balasore district when the three-way disaster occurred, according to the preliminary investigation of the tragedy.
The accident on Friday night resulted in the derailment and significant damage of up to 17 coaches from these two passenger trains.
