Ranchi, July 12: The Delhi Public School Ranchi on Tuesday organised ‘Meet the Champions’ as an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the Fit India Campaign run during the Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (Government of India), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Government of India) and Sports Authority of India (SAI).
DPS hosted Tokyo Olympians Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das along with students of 75 schools on its premises, who were there to interact with students and talked about healthy habits and the importance of a balanced meal.
When questioned before the programme about their expectations from the said interaction, Olympian Atanu Das said, “It is a great opportunity for us. We hope that we not only motivate the students but also learn from them.”
Deepika, when questioned about the importance of the Fit India initiative said, “It is a very interesting event, wherein we get to meet and interact with several children at once. It is also a good opportunity for me to be able to motivate these children to do better.”
Dr Ram Singh, Principal, DPS Ranchi extended a warm welcome to the players and hailed the event. He further said, “This initiative was started to keep the children fit and interested in sports. The initiative also aims to impart the knowledge of the importance of a balanced diet and its advantages.”
Expressing his gratitude to the Government of India, the principal hoped that the session would guide the upcoming generation of the nation regarding the benefits of maintaining a healthy diet and opportunities in sports for future champions.
The interaction started with an Audio-Visual message by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which highlighted his vision of a new healthier and fitter India and showcased his interaction with the Olympians when he had initially asked them to participate in the initiative.
Kumari and Das further stressed on the importance of a balanced diet, fitness and sports; and shared tips on eating right, correct fitness regime and also important life lessons they gained in their sports journey.
Furthermore, students asked questions related to human diet & nutrition, fitness and various opportunities available in sports which were answered enthusiastically by the Olympians. They further encouraged the students to dream big and act responsibly.
Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das further showcased their sports skills and played Sports on the outdoor field of the school premises.
The overall session proved to be an extremely enriching medium giving the students an insight into the importance of a balanced diet and inspiring them on how they can achieve their dreams and serve as the future of the nation.
