Coochbehar, June 27: Two groups got into a fight in Gitaldaha in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, which resulted in one guy being shot to death, on Tuesday morning.

The name of the deceased is Babu Hoque.

Sumit Kumar SP, Cooch Behar said, “A clash broke out between two groups in Gitaldaha, Cooch Behar this morning. As per info, 5 people have received bullet injuries, of which one Babu Hoque has died. The situation is peaceful. Police present on the spot.”

Gitaldaha is near Jaridharla, one of the most interior places in the Cooch Behar district and is very close to the International Border. The only available means of communication are boats.

The police have arrived and are speculating about the use of criminals from Bangladesh by local leaders.

At the moment, everything is calm there.

Conflicts are ongoing in many areas of the state ahead of the Panchayat elections, which are set for July 8.

After a disagreement between members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) parties, violence broke out in Raghunathpur, Purulia district on Sunday.

An earlier violent event at the Block Development Office in Ahmadpur, Birbhum, is said to have involved the throwing of homemade bombs. Several people were hurt during the incident and several residences were vandalised.

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister, arrived in Cooch Behar on Sunday to launch the party’s panchayat election campaign. She is expected to host a party meeting in Jalpaiguri on Tuesday.
