Ranchi, May 23: Vehicular movement of NH-33, which connects Ranchi with steel city Jamshedpur, on Monday morning remained disrupted as a Ranchi bound passenger bus named Rajdhani Express coming from Kolkata overturned at Ichadih, a village about 70km from the final destination of the bus under Tamad police station. The incident left one woman dead and several injured.
SP (rural) Naushad Alam confirmed the situation saying the movement of vehicles returned to normal after the bus was removed from the accident site and the injured were admitted to hospital. Apart from this, an alternative arrangement was also done to send the passengers who survived the accident to their respective destinations.
Alam said that the reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained, however, a police official said the primary investigation suggested ‘overloading and over speeding’ as the reason for the accident.
“A passenger informed the police that the bus was carrying a big number of cartons and other luggage on its rooftop and was speeding when it collided with a guard wall along the road and flipped by side. The head of a woman was separated from her body in the incident while many sustained injuries. Passengers were rescued after cutting the body of the bus with the help of a gas cutter,” the police official said.
