Dhanbad, May 3: A wedding party member died and three others were injured seriously when the bus they were travelling on overturned. The incident took place on the Giridih- Patna main road near Bhelba village under Gawan police station, around 76 km away from Giridih district headquarters on Tuesday at 5 am.
Police official Pintu Kumar said the deceased was identified as Munshi Mahto (65). The injured members were admitted to Gawan community health centre (CHC) in critical condition.
The bus was returning to Bhikhi village from Ghutia village after the passengers attended a wedding ceremony in the morning. The driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle overturned. One of the passengers told media persons that around 25 persons were on the bus when it overturned.
“Since the bus overturned, several members got trapped beneath the vehicle. Police along with local people called a JCB to get the bus to stand again and rescued the people. One member was found crushed to death while three had received severe injuries,” said a villager.
Later, the irate villagers blocked the Giridih- Patna main road for hours in protest of the accident. They demanded proper government compensation to the family of the deceased.
Following the road blockade, a long line of vehicles appeared on both sides of the road. The officials of the Gawan police station got the road cleared after pacifying the villagers to help in getting compensation.
