Dhanbad, July 18: A 28-year-old man was electrocuted while allegedly stealing electric wire from the pole near Chachando Power Sub Station under Bengabad police station, around 18.9 km away from Giridih district headquarters on Sunday night.
The officer-in-charge of Bengabad police station Pradeep Kumar said that the deceased was identified as Tahir Ansari, a resident of Fitkoria village under Bengabad police station.
Tahir succumbed to an electric jolt on the spot. On Monday morning, the villagers spotted his body under the electric pole and immediately informed the police. Officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar reached the spot and after completing the formality, sent the body to district headquarters for postmortem.
The Bengabad OC said that the circumstances suggest that when there was load shedding when Tahir climbed on the pole for stealing the wire. As he began cutting it, all of sudden the power supply was restored. He received a major jolt and fell to the ground.
In the initial investigation, it has been reported that four persons were with Tahir in stealing electric wire. After the incident, they fled from the spot fearing police action. “Tahir was notorious in the area for power wire theft. Police are investing to nab other persons involved in the crime with him,” the OC said.
