New Delhi, March 11: The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) announced that pilgrims would be able to register for the yatra online beginning from April. The RFID-based tracking will be implemented for vehicle movement during pilgrimage to the shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas.

“The online registration will start through banks in the month of April 2022 with a limit of 20,000 registrations fixed per day”, said Rahul Singh, additional CEO SASB during a high-level meeting chaired by Jammu Divisional Commissioner Raghav Langer to review the arrangements for the upcoming yatra.

During the yatra days, he said, on-the-spot registrations will be available at dedicated counters.

According to him, the board has decided to utilise Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to track the movement of cars and pilgrims during this year’s journey to the venerated Shrine in order to protect the safety of Amarnath pilgrims. The RFID tag cards will be issued to all the pilgrims.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Commissioner instructed all the DCs to install an adequate number of toilets, water coolers en-route highway for convenience of the pilgrims.

Notably, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual pilgrimage was held on a symbolic basis in 2020 and 2021. As a result, the number of pilgrims is projected to be higher this year than in past years.
