Orange Alert Issued for Jharkhand as Hailstorm and Heavy Rain Batter State

Ranchi: Jharkhand has witnessed a sudden weather shift with thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hailstorm activity reported across several districts in the past 24 hours. The meteorological department has issued an orange alert for multiple districts for May 12, warning of strong winds and lightning.

Recent Rainfall and Temperature Data

The highest rainfall of 46.2 mm was recorded in the Ranchi Aero area, followed by 15 mm in Namkum, 12 mm in Ghaghra, and 11 mm in the Diakel area of Khunti. Hailstorm activity was also recorded in Ranchi. Daltonganj remained the hottest part of the state with a maximum temperature of 37.8°C, while Kanke recorded the lowest minimum at 17.2°C. Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, and Bokaro Thermal recorded maximum temperatures of 31.8°C, 33.4°C, and 33.2°C respectively.

Orange Alert for May 12

The weather department has issued an orange alert for Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Koderma, and Dhanbad for May 12, with winds of 50 to 60 km/h and lightning strikes expected. Similar conditions are likely to continue in the eastern and central parts of the state on May 13 as well.

Yellow Alert for May 11

A yellow alert has been issued for May 11 covering all districts except Garhwa, Chatra, Palamu, and Latehar, with thunderstorms and strong winds likely across the remaining parts of the state.

Extended Forecast Through Mid-May

Unsettled weather with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected to continue across most of Jharkhand from May 14 to 16. Ranchi and surrounding areas are likely to see partly cloudy skies with intermittent rain or thunder until May 17. However, the maximum temperature in Ranchi could rise to 38°C by May 15, with temperatures across the state expected to increase by 4 to 5°C over the next five days.
