The Assam government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the firing incident at Dhalpur during an anti-encroachment operation in Darrang district. Two people were killed and several policemen were injured in the incident. As per the official notification, the investigation will be headed by a retired judge of the Gauhati High Court.

Notably, a violent clash broke out between the police and the local people on Thursday in Darrang district of Assam. Two civilians were killed and nine policemen injured in this incident.

According to reports, several people were protesting demanding rehabilitation of 800 families evicted by the Darrang district administration of Assam. During this, a sudden clash broke out between the protesters and the police force. Later, two persons were killed while at least 20 others were injured in firing by the force.

“ The police were given a task to evict the encroachers and were carrying out their work when they were attacked by the people with stones and sharp weapons. The eviction drive will continue,” CM Himanat Biswa

The area of 7000 bighas of government land is a part of a community farming project. Last Monday, the district administration evicted 800 households without any untoward incident being reported. Villagers had gathered to demand rehabilitation for the same.
