New Delhi, July 15: As the NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu received the backing of Akhilesh Yadav’s associate Om Prakash Rajbhar, Yashwant Sinha’s campaign as the opposition’s presidential nominee suffered yet another defeat.
The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), which has six MLAs in the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly, is led by Rajbhar. He claimed that the choice was made following consultations with the party’s office holders and leaders.
Rajbhar, a former BJP supporter who joined the opposition in 2019, joined former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren earlier this week in doing so.
If elected, Droupadi Murmu will be the first tribal woman to be the President. The election to select the new president of India will take place on Monday, with President Ram Nath Kovind’s tenure slated to expire on July 24.
