Ranchi, July 18: Out of 80 votes polled at the Jharkhand assembly for the election of the 16th President of India, NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu is expected to get 60 while UPA candidate Yashwant Sinha is expected to get 20.
The 60 votes which Murmu is expected to get include 25 from BJP, two from Ajsu, one from NCP, 30 from JMM and one independent. Whereas, the 20 votes which Sinha is expected to get include 18 from Congress and one each from CPI (ML) and RJD. If BJP legislator Indrajit Mahto had voted, Murmu would have remained at 61.
As many as 57 votes are confirmed as BJP, AJSU and JMM legislators disclosed their support after they returned to exercising their franchise while the action and statement of three independents gave hints of support for Murmu.
“I heard the voice of conscience,” said Kamlesh Singh of NCP after voting while Amit Mandal was noticed accompanying BJP legislators while going to vote. Roy said he voted to ensure that the union government runs without any hindrance to the unity and integrity of the country though it has to work properly on many issues.
