Moscow, March 6: More than 1,100 people were detained in cities throughout Russia during rallies against Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine on Sunday.
According to the OVD-Info group, 1,103 people had been detained across 35 cities by 2:20 p.m. Moscow time (1120 GMT) Sunday, bringing the total number of demonstrators detained to 9,472 since President Vladimir Putin ordered troops into Ukraine for a “special operation” on February 24.
Russian officials had no immediate response, but the interior ministry had warned on Saturday that any attempt to hold unauthorised protests would be halted, and the organisers would be held accountable.
