P.V. Sindhu reaches Indonesia Masters’ quarterfinals

New Delhi, Nov.18: World-class shuttler from India, PV Sindhu, on Thursday advanced to the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Masters Super 750 badminton tournament with a spectacular come-from-behind victory over Clara Azurmendi of Spain.

Sindhu, who is seeded third, won 17-21 21-7 21-12 in 47 minutes against world no. 47 Azurmendi in the women’s singles second round clash. In the quarterfinals, the two-time Olympic medalist will meet Neslihan Yigit of Turkey, who is seeded 30th in the world.

Sindhu has a 3-0 record against the Turkish in head-to-head competition. However, young Lakshya Sen in the men’s singles event and Dhruv Kapila and N Sikki Reddy in the mixed doubles event were eliminated.

In a 46-minute match, the 20-year-old Lakshya, who had previously reached the semi-finals of the Hylo Open Super 500 and the final of the Dutch Open, lost 13-21 19-21 against the top seed and two-time world champion Kento Momota of Japan.

In the second round mixed doubles match, Kapila and Sikki lost a hard-fought 15-21 23-21 18-21 struggle to Thai combo Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran.
