New Delhi, Dec 1: The test match between Pakistan and England in Rawalpindi on Thursday saw the fastest century-plus opening stand in English history between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett.
Crawley made an early statement of intent by hitting three boundaries in the first over of the Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah, who took 38 balls to reach his half-century. Before lunch on the first day of a Test, Crawley was just nine runs away from becoming the first England batter to reach the century mark. He has so far broken 17 records.
On the first day of the first Test, Crawley scored a quick-fire hundred after lunch. To reach his third Test hundred, the England starting pitcher drove Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah for a distance. In his second half-century, Duckett, who was taking part in his first Test match in six years, was just as aggressive, smashing 11 fours.
With this, England made remarkable 506-4 on first day of first Test.
Earlier, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bat against Pakistan in the first Test match. After several members of the touring team fell ill with an unknown virus on Wednesday, the start of the three-match series, England’s first in Pakistan since 2005, hung in the balance.
