New Delhi, June 9: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) politician Aamir Liaquat Hussain was found dead at his Karachi residence.
According to reports, the Karachi politician and televangelist was found unconscious at his house and brought to a hospital in the province capital. Due to his critical condition, Liaquat was rushed to a private hospital in Karachi, but doctors were unable to resuscitate him.
The police have initiated a probe into his death. Speaker of the Pakistan National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf adjourned the House until 5 p.m. on Friday after learning of the death.
Before joining the PTI, Aamir was a member of the MQM-P. During Gen Pervez Musharraf’s military dictatorship, he served as a state minister. In 2002 and 2018, he was elected to the National Assembly twice.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, former President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairperson and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, and former Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail all expressed their condolences and prayed for the late lawmaker’s soul.
