New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has claimed that Pakistan emerging as a mediator between the US-Israel bloc and Iran is a significant diplomatic setback for India, citing international media reports.
Congress Questions India’s Diplomatic Position
Jairam Ramesh stated that reports suggest Pakistan is acting as a mediator in the ongoing West Asia conflict. He argued that if these reports are accurate, it reflects poorly on India’s global diplomatic standing. He also criticized the government, saying that despite military successes, India may be lagging behind Pakistan in diplomatic engagement and narrative-building.
Allegations Of Strengthening Pakistan’s Global Role
Ramesh further claimed that Pakistan’s leadership is strengthening ties with former US President Donald Trump, which has helped Islamabad regain relevance on the global stage. He alleged that the United States has contributed to enhancing Pakistan’s international position, including hosting its military leadership at the White House.
Criticism Of Government’s Foreign Policy
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress leader criticized his foreign policy approach, particularly referring to his visit to Israel before the escalation in Iran-related tensions. He described the outreach strategy as ineffective and said it may have long-term consequences for India’s diplomatic interests.
Political Reactions Intensify Amid Global Crisis
The remarks come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with global powers and regional players actively shaping alliances. The issue has triggered sharp political reactions in India, with opposition leaders questioning the government’s handling of foreign policy.
