Dumka, Dec.21: Pakur police have arrested three accused who were allegedly involved in the brutal murder of the Mukhiya of Manikpapara Panchayat of the district last night along with his three years old daughter last night.

According to the Pakur SP Hrudeep P Janardhanan, half a dozen unknown assailants hurled crude bombs on the four-wheeler the deceased Mukhiya Kaushar Ali (30) who was traveling in along with his wife and two children, near Pali road under Muffassil police station of the district at around 8 p.m.

The assailants who had hurled one dozen crude bombs on the vehicle later dragged the injured Mukhiya out from the vehicle and stabbed him to death as other family members and the driver remained trapped inside for having suffered injuries from splinters.

“The deceased Mukhiya and his daughter Nihar Khatun were declared brought dead by the doctors at Sadar Hospital whereas other occupants of the vehicle including his wife Naseema Bibi, their four years old son Junaid Ahmad and the driver Amirul Sheikh were referred to Bengal after preliminary treatment,” the SP said adding that the condition of the injured ones were still being reported to be critical.

The SP further said that three accused were so far arrested whereas raids were still being conducted at the suspected hideouts of other assailants who together had old enmity with the deceased Mukhiya over local village issues and land disputes.

“The deceased Mukhiya was influential in the locality and used to settle disputes of the villagers in which he had also invited enmity with the assailants over a land dispute taken place about five to six months ago,” the SP stated adding that the accused persons had also lodged several cases against the Mukhiya on previous occasions.

The incident, meanwhile, has wreaked havoc in the locality bordering Bengal where the absconding assailants are believed to have sneaked into to evade the arrest.

The SP said that the photographs of three absconding accused were released today to have information about their hideouts from common people whose identity will be kept secret.

Reports said that the deceased Mukhiya had affiliation with the AJSU party whereas the assailants were associated with the ruling parties including the JMM and Congress.

“For the rural elections are on the anvil, the possibility of Mukhiya’s assassination being in the same backdrop cannot be ruled out also,” the SP added.
