Daltonganj, Sept 20: One of the two bike-borne miscreants opened fire in the air today in the market area of Haidernagar, about 112 km away from Daltonganj.

Officer in charge of the Haidernagar police station Ajit Kumar Munda said the criminals even threw a handwritten note in the market asking for extortion worth 50 lakhs of rupees.

Police officer Munda said the area where the incident took place has a big shop of cement of the Agrawal brothers and this extortion demand was aimed at the two brothers.

Police have identified one Bittu Singh for this offence. The identity of his accomplice is not yet established.

Bittu Singh is a habitual offender as early in February this year, he was caught and jailed for a similar act of firing in the air in a case of eve teasing. He remained in Central Jail Daltonganj for a few months and now he is on bail and outside.

Police have registered another case under Arms Act against him and are looking for his arrest who has gone underground.
