Daltonganj, Dec 1: Innovative farming is slowly catching up with the farmers of Palamu.

From cultivating strawberry to black wheat, sugar-free rice to extracting oil from Tulsi, these farmers are taking a lead in the region.

During Covid 19 pandemic, the herb Tulsi, known for its medicinal properties, gained a lot of attention from people.

Sensing this great demand, 20 farmers under the banner of the ‘Veer Kunwar Singh Krishak Sewa Sahkari Samiti Ltd’ led by a progressive farmer Priya Ranjan Singh, began to grow Tulsi in 10 acres of land.

With the help of subsidy, they have set up an extraction plant also for Tulsi oil at village Doomerhatha under the Hussainabad sub division.

Priya Ranjan Singh said that they bought the Tulsi seeds at Rs 3,000 per kilogram from the Lucknow based Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants.

“Full grown Tulsi in one acre spread can produce 25 litres of oil which has a good market in Delhi,” said Priya Ranjan Singh.

Divisional Commissioner Palamu, Jata Shanker Choudhary, had ensured that these farmers did not face any difficulties in setting up the extraction plant.
