Daltonganj, Sept 27: Palamu district administration is mulling over starting generic medicine shops at Medinirai Medical College Hospital (old name Sadar hospital) and also at community health centres and sub-divisional hospitals.
Sources said the medical superintendent is to deal with the generic shop at the MMCH Daltonganj while the civil surgeon is to get it opened at the peripheral health centres.
Tender notice is to be floated for the generic medicine shops. Sources reminded there were efforts in the past for the setting up of the generic medicine shop at the then Sadar hospital in Daltonganj but the project was shelved down for excessive bullying tactics by those who wanted to grab it by any means. However, some vested interests are working overtime from now itself for it.
A medicine shop, generic or branded, has to have 120 sq ft space with all other infrastructural facilities. Generic medicines are pretty cheap and make the treatment cost considerably low.
